Calling all swimmers. The annual Endless Summer Swim hosted by Gyllyngvase Surf Life Saving + Triathlon Club will be held this month on 30th September at Gyllyngvase Beach, Falmouth. Now in it’s 5th year, the open water swim is a fantastic fundraiser for the club and also a great social event for the whole community.
The course is roughly 800m / 3 buoys for adults (18+) and juniors (13-17) and 500m / 1 buoy for nippers (7-12). Each entrant is required to raise a minimum of £5 sponsorship to take part, which will go towards sourcing new club equipment. The nipper race begins at 11am with the adult and junior race starting at 12pm. Registration is open an hour before each race begins.
The event is accessible to both competitive swimmers and those just wanting to complete the challenge. There is a special prize awarded to the swimmer with the largest sponsorship received.
“This 800m sea swim event organised by Gyllyngvase SLSC is one of the better organised swim events in Cornwall. The entry fee is a modest £5 (though they invite you to raise more), the swim today though choppy, is generally sheltered. Registration was straightforward, I got a t-shirt and importantly, the pre race brief and start was clear and well coordinated. Great weather, good swim. a t-shirt and drink and all for a fiver? Must be the Endless summer swim.” Tri-Cornwall, 2011
Every competitor will receive a t-shirt and bottle of water, and there will be prizes for the winners of each category. There will also be a raffle on the beach, raising additional funds for the club. We would like to thank the event sponsors for making all of this possible: Gylly Beach Café, Sessions Surf Shop, 2twenty2, Cornwall Property Paper, Miller & Son, Pure Blue water, Neuvya Swim School, Seasalt Cornwall, ASP Printers, Primal Fitness Cornwall and RNLI Lifeguards.
It’s been a fantastic event for the past 4 years and the club is looking forward to seeing you there on the last Sunday of September 2012. Entries on the day allowed. An application form can be found below…
