Gyllyngvase Surf Life Saving Club fielded a strong team of nipper and junior members at last weeks British Life Saving Sport Pool Championships in Cardiff.
We earned a large collection of medals after 2 days of fierce competition at the International Pool in the Welsh Capital. The nipper team (7 – 12 years) finished a fantastic 7th place, only 10 points behind Hayle. The junior squad (13-19 years) also showed a lot of skill and determination, finishing 12th overall, despite having one of the smallest teams in the competition. Newly appointed Club Captain, Sam Steele, had some excellent results and earned a large number of points for the team in the 18-19s.
With only ten juniors we achieved a respectable twelfth place. The under 15s relay team performed extremely well considering it was made up of a 12 year old, two 13 year olds and a 14 year old. To achieve second in the nationals, their effort was amazing!
Melissa Reid, Junior Coach
‘I am very proud of all of the competitors from Gylly SLSC, everyone’s hard work over the last year has clearly showed over the championships. I must say a big thank you to all coaches, officials, and parents who continue to volunteer their time to support the club.’
Matthew Stone, President of Gylly SLSC
The success is even greater looking at last year’s results, where the team finished second from last. This time around, they received 11 gold, 9 silver and 4 bronze medals. There was a lot of effort and teamwork to be seen from all Gylly competitors who attended the champs, well done to you all!
