(Taken from the RNLI website – rnli.org.uk)

RNLI Lifeguards Chris Boundy and John Dugard will be awarded Silver Medals for Gallantry for their rescue of an angler from the seas off Trebarwith Strand on 28 June 2008.

Chris and John put their own lives in peril to save the man from treacherous conditions, and then used their first aid training to sustain life until the casualty was evacuated by helicopter.

This is the first Silver Medal service by RNLI lifeguards, and the first time two Silver Medals have been awarded for the same service since Hayling Island lifeboat crew Roderick James and Frank Dunster were honoured for their part in responding to the Donald Searle on 19 January 1993.
