Cornish Marathon

2010 will see the twenty seventh running of the Cornish marathon. Originally it started out from Saltash and wound its way down the A38 and A390 to Lostwithiel. Current traffic conditions on one of the busiest roads in Cornwall make that unimaginable. Relocating to Rilla Mill, taking in much of the present route, it presented competitors with an immediate steep start just to get out of the valley. Nowadays it starts from Millenium House in Pensilva, where its relatively flat gradient makes for a much gentler start, however it is most definitely the 25 miles after that, particularly the climb to Foredown between miles 24 and 25, which most people will remember!

Hayle Aquathlon

A team of 16 members from Gylly took part in the final Hayle aquathlon of the year. We had some fantastic results: Allan Reid came first Senior Male, winning the overall race as well. Frazer Anthony-Johns finished 3rd Senior Male. We also had a victory in the Junior Male and Female catergories with Felix Coates (second overall) and Izzy Steele (first female home). The team of Cortney-Lee Reid and John Posnett stormed to victory and Gary Bullen won the Veteron Male catergory. Well done all! Full results here… Hayle Aquathon 3 2010 results

Doggy Biathlon was a splash!

When you think of fund-raising events, you usually think of cake sales and sponsored swims! Not with Gylly… Thanks to Izzy Steele for organising the Doggy Biathlon (yes you heard right!), that took place today in a great conditions on the beach. We were even luckily enough to have a clean shorebreak that both four and two legged contenders had to negotiate! Max and Courtney-Lee were the first to cross the line, but it was a fantastic result for all. Pics on Facebook.

We are a Super Club!

After all of our hard work this year, I can proudly say the Gyllyngvase SLSC finished an amazing 8th out of 31, in the Super Club rankings of 2010. These results are the combined scores of all of the National Competitions throughout the year; including Nipper, Youth, Open and Master age groups as well as both stillwater and beach events. Gylly SLSC are now becoming a very strong Surf Life Saving Sport contender. Well done to all!

Endless Summer Swim 2010

Another fantastic event… the 3rd Endless Summer Swim 2010 held its biggest field yet. Almost 100 swimmers, aged between 7 and 70 took to the cool waters of the English Channel. Thank you all for taking part in a great fund-raiser for the club. Thanks also to those who helped out with safety cover and registration on the day. We raised almost £1000! I hope to see you all again next year.
