Big swell and howling winds forced the race organisers of the 2011 Perranporth Triathlon to change the race to a run/wade/run format. Although the race is called a ‘surf’ triathlon, many entrants come down from up-country for this race, and it was probably a good call in the 6ft+ conditions. A cyclist who was testing the course got blown of their bike earlier in the morning, which stopped the bike part of the race. Many turned up on the day, took a look at the conditions and left without racing. It certainly favoured the runners, and the favourites of the day finished back in the field.
