The RNLI’s annual Castle to Castle Swim and St Mawes 10km Cross Country Run events will be held on Sunday 29 May and will be raising money for the RNLI. The event’s are being held during the annual Fal River Festival.
The Castle to Castle Swim is a 1 mile Open Water Swim held between Pendennis Point and St Mawes Castle and offers a unique opportunity to cross this major estuary under controlled circumstances, with the swim taking place at 3pm to coincide with slack water (High Water 15:59)
All entrants must be capable of swimming at least one mile in open water and guarantee to raise a minimum of £50 sponsorship for the RNLI – sponsorship forms are provided including a PDF version and for those wishing to setup their own on-line fundraising page guidelines are available – please note that all competitors must provide and wear a wet suit – high visibility swim caps will be supplied by the RNLI.
The St Mawes 10km Cross Country Run will start at 4pm and follows the coastal footpath from St Mawes to St Just in Roseland and Messack Point before climbing up over the peninsula and back down into St Mawes along the harbour side to the finish line back at St Mawes Castle. Although this is a coastal run it does rise to a height of 200ft as it crosses over the peninsula before dropping back down to sea level. All entrants must guarantee to raise a minimum of £25 sponsorship for the RNLI – sponsorship forms are provided.
Anyone who takes part in the Castle to Castle Swim will automatically get free entry to the St Mawes 10km Cross Country Run and will have the choice of completing immediately after their swim or joining the mass start at 4pm. The On-Line Registration for the 2011 RNLI Castle to Castle Swim is now LIVE and can be found at www.rnli.org.uk/castle2castle
Currently we have over 180 people registered for the swim and the number of places will have to be limited due to safety considerations so early registration is recommended.
On-Line Registration for the St Mawes 10km Cross Country Run will open in March but provisional places can be booked by e-mailing email@example.com.
If you would like to sample the atmosphere from last years RNLI Castle to Castle Swim why not view the video footage that has been uploaded by a member of the public onto the RNLI’s Official YouTube site at 2010 RNLI Castle to Castle Swim.
For those that are not interested in taking part in the swim or run there are still plenty of other ways of getting involved in this major event, both ashore and afloat – any help you can give would be gratefully appreciated.
The help that Gyllyngvase Surf Life Saving Club gave us last year was very much appreciated and we hope you will able to help again this year. – Contact Allan (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you are interested in volunteering as safety cover for the event.

Attached is a map showing the route of the swim.
The Event will allow the RNLI to hopefully reach their fundraising target of £25k – this money which will then be used to help Save Lives around our Cornish Coast.
